We’ll use this page for FAQs – Frequently Asked Questions, so check back if you’ve asked us a question because we’ll update it periodically.

Q. What kind of electronics are you using – for blogging, routing, pictures, communication?

A. Our primary device is an iPhone. It is small so we keep it in Jim’s back pocket. It is easy to use and has a great camera, as well as apps for WordPress and Warmshowers. It is very simple to move pics directly from the phone to WordPress thru the app on that one device.

We also have an iPad mini. We generally keep this on airplane mode and it serves as a backup to the phone. We also draft some of our blog in the Notes app on the iPad. Then one of us can work on the narrative on the iPad while the other uploads pics from the day using the iPhone. Then we cut & paste the narrative from Notes into WordPress, give it a publish date & save.

When we get to Canada, we have a SIM card for the iPhone, so we’ll have cellular data at a reasonable charge. At that point we’ll have to find wifi if we want to use the iPad.

Q. What is WS or Warmshowers?

A. The Warm Showers Community is a free worldwide hospitality exchange for touring cyclists. People who are willing to host touring cyclists sign up and provide their contact information, and may occasionally have someone stay with them and share great stories and a drink.

Q.  What is your route?

A.  We’re going to roughly follow the Adventure Cycling Northern Tier route.  See the Routes page on our blog for a map.

Q. How are you get to your starting point?

A. We’re driving our car out to Bar Harbor with Shawn’s brother, Boyce and brother-in-law, Brad (not to be confused with Shawn’s brother, Brad!)

Q.  How are you getting home when you finish?

A.  Not sure.  We have several options and we’ll worry about that as the time approaches.
